Default can poker memory improve?

Ive noticed when ive read some blogs that these good no limit players recall so many hands they have played. this one guy was giving a lot of hands that he played in a tournament.

is it experience and analyzing the game that lets them remember these hands so well, or is it something they were born with?

how can i get memory like that?

I think the final answer to your question is "yes," and here is why:

When people first start playing poker, almost everyone is results oriented. We focus on the fact that we either won or lost the hand, and that's about it. As you move on and get more experienced, you know the number of outs, the odds, and strategy a lot better. Instead of saying I lost on the river, you remember that he had 8 outs to his straight, you were ahead, but he hit.

You might move on to the next level where you put yourself in his shoes and see why he play 76 suited the way he did preflop and postflop. All of this helps to ingrain each hand in your mind .

This bit of thinking will help you analyze and hopefully remember each interesting hand more easily...in hopes that in the future you will recognize the situation again and play accordingly.

Hope this helps!

i wouldnt say they remember particular hands. its more they have been involved in so many situations that it becomes more like a program in your mind that automatically knows what course of action to take based on there experience. the more they have encountered situations, the more they improve and adjust there stratagy. it becomes natural.

Poker memory can definitely improve as you become a more experienced player. The most important aspect you want to try to remember is your history with certain players. If you can work on your recall while you're at the table you will be able to make better plays with consistency.

I defiantley think that your poker memory improves over time, sometimes its not so good though, like when you can't get that one bad beat out of your head lol.

You make a great point here chip. I've really noticed that sometimes a bad beat will just stick in my head and block out everything else. Even if I'm not mad about it I just keeping thinking over and over again how not mad I am at the beat

We definitely all have selective memories. Trying to get that bad beat out of your head is definitely important.

If nobody has answered your question fully yet, I can give you an answer for sure.

There have been many psychological studies that prove that there is something called a "memory expertise". We are learning about it now in psychology. People that have a particular expertise in a certain field are much more likely to remember something because they tap into that section of their brain more often.

So in answer to your question, YES.
