Default I need big help

I have been playing poker live for the last four years and I'm now a dominant player at all home games. I have never cashed at a tournament, but I get damn close. I started to play online at Ultimate Bet .25/.50 NL tables and I have learned that in the beginning I seem to win big, but eventually all my luck runs out and I lose really big. I mean it isn't really even a case of luck. I just seems that whenever I have top pair and I'm up against a player who has played damn near every hand, that player constantly has trips. Same thing when I get two pair. Usually I raise preflop and get called fast as if the know they'll catch their third card. Usually happens everytime I have AA or AKs. Maybe I should play limit and that way I don't lose as much with these hands. I lose a lot of money with these hands in NL. I started out with a $600 bankroll and almost doubled it. Then went on a ridiculous losing streak bringing me to half of what I started with. I even lowered the stakes. Just seems everyone else is luckier than I am. What should I do. I'm using Poker Tracker and I kinda have a hard time understanding everything on it. I get the fundamentals, but I don't know what's the best way to learn from it. I watch a lot of hands over and over again to learn some mistakes, but I can't understand how to adjust my play to become more profitable. I also use Poker Pro 2007. It hasn't helped me tremendously. At the beginning I thought is was a pretty good program. I have a million programs to help me, but I still use my own judgement at times. Still no really good results. I almost feel like online poker is a scam. I need help pretty bad.

First thing i thought about was bankroll management, but you seem to kind of understand that. Post some hands in the proper forums, read a lot. Majority of the people here will help you if you don't come off as conceded.

In any game involving luck there are those who feel as though they get the lion's share of bad luck almost every time. However, the reality is that over the long term the luck factor will approximately even out and usually what is occurring is that either a) the long term hasn't occurred yet so the person is actually experiencing a run of short term bad luck or b) the person doesn't remember the times he received good luck and instead focuses on the times he received bad luck.

Speaking for myself when playing sit and gos it's very easy to be caught up in "b" because bad luck on one big hand can mean the end of the sit and go so in any particular sit and go I may have AK vs JT and win all in twice but then the third time lose all in with that and then go away from the sit and go thinking that I was very unlucky when in reality I won the expected number of times in that matchup (that's just a hypothetical example).

Anyway, what helps is an understanding of what mistakes I may have made and an understanding that as long as I put my big money in with the best hand as often as possible over the long term the luck will work out fine.

We've all been on runs -- sometimes long runs -- of bad luck, it happens.

Default Okay

I'm starting to get it. I'm learning to be more patient with my game now. It's hard when the hands are as unbelieveable as they are. I'm positive that I have gotten phenomenal hands as well and profited nicely from them. I'm learning how to use pokertracker to my advantage now. I know that I have to spend a lot more time playing in order to learn the players. Anyone know any programs that help you keep track of daily wins and losses easily? Also a bankroll management program. Something I can probably use for my live poker bankroll management also.

NL50 (.25/.50) is quite an advanced level. Players here might have played 50,000+ hands of online poker, a lot of experience. They basically profit well from players like yourself, who have played a bit of live and have very little experience by comparison. My advice is to drop back to NL10 (.05/.10) for at least 5000 hands to gain experience. After 5000 hands you should have a fair idea of how you are going, but some would play much more hands before moving up to NL25.

Post some of your bad beats to the Hand Analysis section. If they trully are bad luck, then you will get the good luck your way at some point. But more likely there will have been ways you could played some of these hands differently to actually win it, or at least lose less. There is a lot of excellent information in the hand analysis section, you could do a lot worse than reading all the hands and responses that get posted there.

Poker Tracker will keep a good eye on your game, here is an article about some of the key problem spotting areas (sorry, another forum):
The 2+2 Forums: How to use Poker Tracker.
Once you understand the key factors in Poker Tracker, Gametime+ or PAHUD will help identify how your opponents play (shows their stats as you play them), and what hand they might be holding this time.

Lesson number 1:

Online poker is much tougher than 99% of live poker, even at 1/10th the stakes.

I think you just need to reflect on your play and study the game more. Online poker is for more serious players than just home game players or casino players. When people play online they actually have to go through a process of creating an account and putting money into it. Home game players and casino players just open their wallets and play. It is obvious that online players are better than the others so you will face stiffer competition. Don't think that you are getting cheated by the poker site because it is random. Reflect on your game and maybe study some more books.
