My first two games with Play Money
Or fake money.
First game:
After waiting for about 2 rounds I got pocket AA. Raised pre-flop and got re-raised. I pushed and got two callers. Guy with 10 Jo scored Q K A. The other guy had something like A5.
Second game:
After waiting for about 1 round I flopped the nut flush. Seeing some people raising on flop, I pushed all in, got one caller. Won the pot and double up.
I then moved to a higher limit (still play money) table thinking players should be even more reasonable. After about a round I picked up pocket Ks. A guy raised about 5X BB pre-flop, got a caller and I pushed all in (~60XBB). Got 5 callers.
Board came down 3 8 9 2 3. I was happy as there is no Ace. Only a pocket pair who flopped set can beat me.
The pot was split between 37o and 35o. Other callers had KQ and something like Q5. Nobody had A.
I think I will skip play money next time.

People's strategy in play money games is not representative of how people play in real money games, though I think you already determined that. Use play money games to get used to the interface (or the game if the game is new to you) and then move on to micro limits (1cent/2cent, for example) for actual poker (well, a lot of the micro limit play is also not that good of strategy but it's much better than play money).

Yeah, a friend played last night for the first time, so I joined him on a play money table. Preflop you could raise 3BB, 9BB, 20BB, all in, you still get heaps of calls. 1c/2c is a better learning experience for sure.

Just be careful that you don't pick up bad habits in the play money or micro-stakes tables.
Oftentimes you'll become used to people playing a certain way. Then as you move up in stakes you're still trying to use the same strategy that worked in a previous limit that doesn't translate to a higher limit.

Play money is only good for getting accustomed to the poker platofrm you are using. Otherwise the play by all players is fairly random, and far more loose and aggressive than real money games.
Much better to step up to low limit real money games, although not too low as you will find the same thing happening again.
