Exclamation community flush

Hi I need confirmation of a hand that was played at my home game!! The community cards were all hearts so all five cards are hearts but in those five comunity cards was the ace of hearts thus making the board a nut flush for everyone!! So I thought!! Both players left in the pot both held a heart but they were lower than the ace, I think it was 6 of hearts and the 8 of hearts. My poker buddy reckons that the winner is established by the person holding the higher heart in the pocket cards, so he reckons that the 8 of hearts would take the pot. I disagree with this!! the community cards are everybodys cards so this would give everybody the nut flush and it would be a split pot as the "ace of hearts" is on the board and everybody can use it please tell us who is write!!!!!

If all the hearts on the board are higher than 8 then its a split pot.

If there is a lower heart than 8 on the board (obviously 7, 5, 4, 3, or 2) then the winner is the player who holds the 8.

Assuming it's hold'em you're playing:

You make your best 5 card hand. If the top card is the same, you look at the second one and so on.

Eg. Player 1 has
Player 2 has

If the board is

Player 1 has
Player 2 has

Therefore player 1 has the highest flush.
