I was playing holdem last night and my brother-n-law and I had a problem. Can someone please shed some light on the boy's head !!! We both had a flush, "Q", "6", "8", "10", he had "4" & off suit "A" pocket, I had "J" & off suit "8" pocket. he's saying my "J" doesn't beat his "4" because the highest card is the "Q" and we should use the next highest pocket card, his off suit "A" against my off suit "8".... I took the pot, but he was pissed, and cryed the rest of the night... I'm a rookie but I think I'm right !!!

Yes you are right. Your flush is Q,J,10,8,6, his is Q,10,8,6,4. Your 5 cards are better. In Hold Em you make the best 5 card hand out of the 7. You never go to the 6th or 7th card. If you have the same 5 card hand its a split pot. For example, if you have Pocket 4's and he has poket 6's, and the board is JJKKA, you both play the board to make two pair K's and J's with and Ace kicker, the other two cards are irrelevent.
