Default Can my computer run HL2?

Hi,

I'm waiting for HL2 to come out (Nov. 16th), and want to make sure my computer can run HL2 on a DECENT level. That is, I don't want to run it on the absolute minimum specs, but don't want to shell out a ton of cash to run it on the absolute ideal specs either.

Here are my comp's specs. Is that my 3d card? Never heard of it before.. do I need to buy a new 3D card? If so, how much will a nice one run me?

Processor: AMD Athlon XP 2200+ 1.81 GHz
Display Adapters: ASUS V9180 v31.40D
Memory: 512 MB of RAM

Thanks,

I assume you're running Windows XP and in that case I'd get some more RAM if you plan to do anything in the background while playing (such as downloading MP3's from Kazaa or porn)

If that's your video card it's probably a built-in one. You probably need a better one and maybe another stick of 512 rams.

How much would a real nice 3D card cost me, and how much would 512 more ram cost?

You can get a nice video card for maybe 200-300. Another stick of ram costs 80 maybe.

Im huge cs fan and very looking forward to hl2 myself. Ive played cs:source and the hl2 beta that was leaked. Another stick of ram is optional, that will run u under 100 bucks. A graphics card(since you dont have one) is a must. If you want hl2 in all its glory and purdyness you are looking around 300. But i suggest you get one notch lower(since you only have a 2200 it will limit you there anyway). If you want to shop around, keep in mind that a pci card is worthless(pci express is not, but most likely you cant use it). Get an agp card, and ati is probably a better choice. Speed is more important than size. Look around for a 128MB card, 128 or preferably 256-bit. Try and find out wat motherboard you have aswell. No use getting a 8X agp card when your motherboard only supports 4X. This 9600XT will play hl2 with all dx9 features for $135. Seems like a real good deal to me.

I found my invoice from when I bought my computer, and found this:

V9180 Geforce4 MX440 64MB 8X AGP

Would that support HL2 you think?

I don't think so. I'm not sure but I think the MX440 can't even run CS smooth, let alone HL2.
