So, you have decided to steal high-speed internet.
My work laptop is set up for wireless internet, but I don't have it at home.
One of my neighbors does. What are the problems/liabilites of using their signal?

Hmm..here there is no liabilty/problem that I can find. That's one of the problems in having wireless here in Canada.
I'm sure if there are some type of uploading/downloading limits on your neighbors internet plan, that could pose some problems for you. Other than that, if you are only planning to use his/her internet for the sake of surfing, I can't see any problem with that.
Here's one thread in another forums that talks about it:
http://www.siteexperts.com/forums/vi...d=15196&Sort=0
And another:

Dunno if these will help, but it's something I've found for ya!
Good Luck

Believe it or not, just tonight I was replacing my 15 year old hub with a wireless router for my new wireless laptop. I saw this thread, didn't think much of it. After I connected my new router, I look at available networks on my laptop and it says linksys and Home LAN. Obviously I just set up home lan, but it seems I get a weak 5.5 Mbps signal from somewhere. My guess is the school not even a block away, but is there any way I can learn more about this open network?

I had a wireless router for a while and threw it against a wall because of things like this.
someone was always using my signal and if I couldn't keep a god signal i'm sure there's was no better.
You can try going to the lyksys website and switching the channel you are using, different frequencies and such. I could only get a connection from 2 of them and then if my phone rang it would boot me off AAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH, I hated that fucking thing!

Will they come over and beat your ass if they find out? Thats the main liability. Sometimes at work, when I work with this one guy who brings his laptop, we'll drive downtown to the Case Westerns Campus and park the squad near the dorm complex and boost a signal from there....

Marm where do you work? I'm somewhat familiar with the CLE downtown area, I always love going to shooters for lunch/dinner/whatever. Any other good restaurants down there?

I work for a regional EMS system...
Yeah, Little italy up 322 from Case has great food, The hardrock, anything in the flats, then I love all the little mom&pop places i find deep in the DEEP urban (read ghetto) regions, they have GOOD food cheap. But I got a badge on and a radio to call for help real quick, you'd never catch me in thsoe neighborhoods in my civies....
