Can't forget that Reagan broke the chain of assinations/deaths every 20 years. He was the first president to be elected on a mutiple of 20 years (20,40,60,80 etc) to not die in office.

and Bush, you jsut happened to forget the GULF WAR.

I think the fall of the Berlin Wall is ahead of the Gulf War.

Is this purely American history? On a world scene you'd probably lose half the list. Certainly the assination of Kennedy ranks way above King. NAFTA???? Sandra Day O`Connor - was she in the Mary-Tyler Moore show? Iran contra?.. local political squabble - not historic..

Emergence of Aids?.. end of Aparteid?..invention of internet...?

Hear hear Bob. MIssile crisis was all kennedy, 13 days in october, he was killed in November. And yeah, I think Kennedies assination ranks above Kings, No disrespect. I gotta agree with Bob, Aids is a big one, The russina invasion of afghanistan, inventiona nd use of high speed telecomminucation has changed the world severly, Falkand war, Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, The whole Concept of MAD in nuclear war, the space race, landing on the moon, landing on other planets (remote),

It was sort of.. but consider this. If you ask anyone in Europe who MaryTyler Moore is.. they'ed almosty certainly know.

Sandra Day O`Connor is only a career lawyer.... I'm pretty well informed and I couldn't place her.. In many respects Margaret Thatcher is probably a more significant political historical figure on a world scene and her electon was 'historic'. Despite being a 'republican' by instinct (not as you understand it politically) I would probably place the death of Lady Di as above the election of Thatcher.. Deaths are always historic.. Her funeral was watched by 2 billion people..

It's hard to put Iran-contra in a list like this when most Americans (and English ppl in fairness) probably couldn't point out where Iran is on a map...couldn't say the same about Vietnam..

If it's about world history you might really consider what followed on after the event.. what did it catalyse?

Playing devils advocate here.. you might consider things like the Beetles.. they probably had more impact on the world in the sixtees and successive decades, influenced more people and will be rememberd 200 years from now...........

Default two in the Bush

Bush hasn't really helped the image of America world wide. I agree with 9/11 (although clearly the response by the administration distanced the world community). Unfortunately, from a world-wide perspective in his second term his non-compliance with the Kyoto agreement has been diplomatically devestating and is almost cetainly of historical merit with long term implications....If you really wanted to show your mettle.. put this down
