Because you need either a 5 or a 10 to make a straight, so obviously having both of them is a big deal.
Sadly, not a Shade original but the god's honest truth answer I received one time (the part before the comma, that is) when asking that same question.

How Ironic
Hearing a lot of interesting things today, like a kid wrote a high school paper in 1999 that Felt was "Deep Throat" after hearing it from Woodburns son Jocab ten years ealier. Now this
Quote:
Felt's decision to keep quiet, however, made possible another moment that linked him to Nixon, Barrett said. When Felt was on trial for authorizing illegal break-ins during the 1970s at homes of people associated with the radical Weather Underground, Nixon testified on his behalf.
And after Reagan pardoned Felt in 1981, he received a bottle of champagne and this brief note from the disgraced former president: "Justice ultimately prevails."

yeah, I found that one pretty ironic, especially with Nixon's note added... its also interesting since our campus decided to bring in a former Weather Underground member to speak this past winter. One of the more interesting PR moments in my career...NOT.
Its also interesting/ironic that a lot of the former Weather Underground members, many of whom now occupy posh positions in elite universities around the nation, now find themselves once again being investigated under provisions in the Patriot Act.

I also forgot Jimmy Hoffa.
I have a relative that will most likely be working at Groom Lake (Area 51). He can't say where it is, but will be flying out of Vegas on a plane with no windows - super secret clearance - yada yada yada.
I give Roswell about as much credence as the Kenneday assisinatino theories, actually, probably less.
I have seen a lot of strange things, including UFO type stuff - I was driving around with one of my friends one evening. A fighter from McChord Air Force Base was flying over the Cascades. It suddenly made a 90 deg turn straight up at incredible high speed and disappeard - ok, maybe that wasn't a fighter. My friend saw it too. Neither of us said anything for about 20min before we had on of those "did you see that" "yep" "wtf was that" " I don't know" moments.
Still, I find the idea of interstellar travel highly unlikely unless Einstein was completely wrong about near-light/FTL travel. Even then, I have a very hard time believing it.
Good post Steve.

amelia earhart. It is a mystery but i think very few people give a rats ass about this one. I put this way below deepthroat
"a drawing by a crew member aboard a 1728 Dutch voyage to Easter Island clearly depicts a standing moai being moved by people using ropes and perhaps even logs"
Ritual use, most polynesian cultures make Moai statues of some sort, Easter Island was isolated and their cult would have developed on its own without influence. Therefor you get the difference in size and such
to ancient to be ahead of deepthroat
they caught a guy pulling the same stunt a few years later, can't remember his name. it was so similar to the DB cooper thing that the lead FBI guy thinks it him.
I put this right in the same breath with deepthroat
Again this would be way below deepthroat inpeoples mystery list.
ok this is pet peeve of mine. there were no martians or space age tools.
point 1 - the inner surface of the blocks is rough, lasers and such would leave a polished edge like is found on the outside surface.
point 2 - quarrymen gands left their mark on many of the blocks
as for how it was built, the same as any other ancient megalithic structure ropes, logs, and ramps
OK this one is probably #1 on most peoples lists
This is a good one and right up there with the pyramids
I can't even comment on these ones
how about
Roswell and Area 51. I would say this is the greatest mystery of our time. I don't believe in UFO's but what exactly went down at Roswell?
Atlantis
as far as greatest mysteries go popularity wise I would say
Roswell
Atlantis
The Pyramids
Stonehenge
there are some other great little known ones as well
Machu Pichu
the Khmer Ruge in cambodia
the burial complex of Xiang Dai in China
And the religious ones
Ark of the Covenant
Shroud of Turin
and so on
And I think the greatest mystery to be
"How the fuck could you call me with five-ten offsuit!"

yeah Jimmy Hoffa is right in that Deep Throat, DB Cooper range.
These are more of a couple of generations mysteries that could still be solved (obviously by this weeks revelation). I think in 100 years noone will care about any of these. once people are no longer alive that experienced it, it tends to become insignificant outside of specialized circles.
Now Atlantis, the Pyramids, Stonehenge, Bermuda Triangle, Nazca Lines, and such go on forever.
I'm going to change area 51, roswell, kennedy assasanation to conspiracies and not mysteries. since they involve coverups.
The religious ones are also important, I remember recently seeing that St. Peters bones were found beneath St. Peter's Basilica, that a church (can't remember the name) has a piece of the cross Christ was crucified on, that a church in Ethiopa holds the Ark of the Covenant. Things like these put not only historical facts into play but also need a certain amount of faith.
There is a lot of archeoligical evidence for biblical events but even still the stories require a leap of faith to be taken at face value, making them mysteries in my mind.
anyone interested in biblical archeology should read the book Pharaohs and Kings A Biblical Quest, great book that I have read countless times. The Bible as history is also a nice read. Good books that prove some of the stories in the bible are based on actual events. I know Beav will appreciate my pro-christian post I owed you a positive christian one from our last religious debate

I used to give credit to the mutlple gunmen theory for JFK (ok, I assumed it was plausible enough, not sure ont he conspiracy thing though) Until The History channel actually recreated the incident with a single shot. They used ballistic gelatin and Bone dummies and with one bullet, a marksman replicated (with minor minor differences due to butterflies in china yadda yadda) the exact path of the bullet through the bodies.... and it had almost identical (lack of) damage done to it.......
