HD-DVD -If you decided to buy a HD-DVD (purely to take advantage of the soon to be cheap back catalogue) then it's not going to set you back more than about £25.
Online costs yearly - £30 off ebay for a far superior service
wireless adapter cost extra - you can use the network cable which would be my preferred option for online gaming.
more storage costs extra - You don't need more storage than the 20Gb drive for normal usage. Simply delete downloaded demos when you've decided if they're good or not. If you're downloading films \ tv then it may be different, but you have to pay for these.

No need to selfishly justify your 360 purchase.

Just setting the record straight you understand.
Believe it or not I am considering getting PS3 as well as my 360. A lot of my mates are getting them and although I prefer the 360 I would like to play online against them.

So I started this thread thinking "both are good I'm not sure which to get".
You'll be glad to know I'm now thinking "both are good I'm not sure which to get".

What games are you interested in? Do you care about the blueray support?

glad we could help
but really, I'd just break it down between what's more important like ping said above
take a good look at the game library between them - is the PS3 missing some games you really want? do you absolutely have to have a bluray? are you going to be an avid online player?

I'm not that fussed with the games. I want to get the new GTA, a football game and a racing game, that's about it for now. I'll use it for dvd's etc. so with bluray owning the market right now, that may be the best bet.
The online stuff doesn't bother me, I doubt I'd do that much online gaming, though it would be cool from time to time.
I think it's prob PS3 that's the best option.

Don't forget, the blu-ray upscaling for standard DVDs is a great little bonus too.
If you're not worried about exclusives, I'd still highly recommend a PS3 over a 360. I've spent considerable time with both and considering I basically play Call of Duty 4 (which is far superior to Halo 3 anyway), MLB 08, & NCAA 08 until GTA & Metal Gear 4...I couldn't be happier.

Truth. The Wii is good for parties and stuff.
PS3 is a bit ahead of XBOX 360 because of the blue ray. However the upscaling and blue ray are only worthwhile if you have an HD TV.

Oh hell, didn't even notice you said a racing game.
Gran Turismo 5 is going to be PS3 exclusive. Game, set, match.
