I honestly think unless you are to a tolerance level of cannabis/alcohol not affecting your play that you should NOT be playing that way. And if you do have that much tolerance, you might make sure to be super dooper careful about how much of a degen you become just because addiction probably will set in nice and quick.

I think in a live setting drinking can help you, especially if you are nervous or quiet and playing tight.
No matter how much I have had to drink I can still play reasonable poker and I am sure as hell getting far more action when I turn up dressed for clubbing and cracking jokes with a pint in my hand then as the quiet guy at the end of the table drinking a coffee and eating a sandwich at midnight whilst playing 1 hand per hour.

A drink or two doesn't hurt much to be honest, but if you find you're not playing your A-game even after a pint (or a sip of pissweak lager for the Americans) then I would advise against it.
I can still play alright with one or two beers down me but when I start actually being drunk I suck even more than usual.

drink occasionally but never feel the effects, no way in the world i'd be able to play more than 1 or 2 tables stoned.
but i can imagine this would be fun
