AVG internet security
http://www6.grisoft.com/doc/products...eecnv/us/crp/0
Anyone use this? My McAfee subscription runs out in a couple of months and the renewal is like $150 or something stupid.
This one is $70 for 2 years which seems like a good deal. I want the firewall/anti-spyware etc. so don't just want to go for the free anti-virus.
Thoughts?

Had the same problem but with Norton. They must be kidding wanting so much!
AVG is a very good deal. I used it for a while and worked like a charm.
We also used it at the IT company I worked at in the UK, that must mean something.
(I'm a computer network security masters student, I hope this means something as well )

David, is it personal preference to want all three utilities from the same company? You could get freeware for all three, works just as well as the ones you pay for, but they would obviously be different company's products.

True. Thats what most people do.
Their quality is questionable though, but for home use they're usually good enough.

True that. For anti-spyware I use Ad-aware and Spybot. For anti-virus I'm using Symantec (legally received free when I was in the Air Force) and for firewall I just use Windows Firewall as my systems are behind a router that blocks most everything anyway.

Are you using Spybot so it can protect in real-time? I'm asking cause I used to have the free Adaware and it could not do anything real time, just search on demand.
There's not much interest in spyware anymore. They're becoming old news. You still need protection though.
I'm using McAfee, legally received free from the University

I really don't do real time spyware protection. I set up automatic scans for the night when I'm not on the computer.

tbh I'm after the easiest option possible, as I'm not that great with the technical side of things. Having them all through the same company would be easier for me to deal with probably. $70 isn't much to pay for 2 years and I'm quite happy to pay it if there aren't easier options out there.

i use the free AVG, some Ad-Aware thing and my Windows firewall.
ive never had any issues that i didnt want but theres probably a disaster waiting to happen somewhere.
since my free McAfee subscription ran out 2 years ago, ive never paid for any of this kinda stuff thats available free of charge for the exact same thing.
