David just use the free avg. I used to have a pirated copy of norton but every year each copy got more communist and eventually tried to take over the computer. AVG does the same job and it wont lag the hell out of your pc either.

I'm never going near Norton again after my last PC. The firewall fucked up but it wouldn't let me change settings cos "I wasn't the administrator". On my own computer. Fuckers.

OK so if I use the free AVG antivirus, what's the recommended firewalls/anti-spyware programs?

-Lavasoft Adaware, free version. Run this and spybot whenever you feel like it, once a week/month whatever

Also Cleanup XP from http://stevengould.org/downloads/cleanup/CleanUp452.exe. Will delete 600mb of junk files on a fresh install of windows. Just make sure you untick cookies, it's a pain in the ass to have to log back into every forum etc.

Don't worry about a firewall with these apps and common sense.
