personally, i enjoy jokes about the english(doesnt everyone tho ) and im sure they enjoy jokes about the paddy irishman.....i also laugh at jokes about blacks, jews, arabs etc etc. im also prone to having a laugh at people, situations, incidents that are in no way funny.

just because i laugh at these jokes and may tell them again(if i can get over my disease of forgetting punchlines)....this doesnt mean that i look down on any of these people(except, well, you know who)

do these jokes, funny stories, exaggerated stories etc make the people telling them or enjoying them racists?

They're jokes, nothing more than that. I know a few people that think some of the jokes about their religion, race etc. are hilarious. As long as there is no offence intended and you are tactful about who you tell the jokes too or who you laugh at them with then there is no problem in my eyes.

I try not to tell a joke to people of single race/type, etc that I would not tell in front of a person the joke is about.

That doesn't mean I don't tell them, just that I say Jew jokes in front of my ex-step family, who are Jewish; Mexican jokes around people in my office, which is 30-40% Mexican; black jokes in front of my boss, who is black; gay jokes around my sister and her friends, who are gay.

I tend to go for tongue in cheek humor, and I think (hope) this comes across. People still talk to me, so I assume they know it is in good humor.

It really depends.

If you're telling the joke in the presence of a person that you know from experience will take it as a joke, it's a good time. If you're not that familiar with the person(s), it's offensive to assume that they won;'t take it personally- even if they're not a member of that race/ethnicity/nationality/whatever. You never know who has a multi-racial child, niece, nephew, or whatever who've had an experience or they themselves could've have witness something traumatic to where the jokes aren't jokes, but threats behind a smile.

I've never been too sensitive with jokes. I think I'm good as understanding when a person, even if they're random, is speaking in jest or out of a threatening hatred.

I laugh at jokes that stand up comedians say. Mostly these jokes are offensive, but in good fun. Most comedians will poke fun at every color/race/class/religion/orientation/ect...

I dont feel @ all guilty at laughing at ppl who are not exactly like me. In fact, it is lame if you cant laugh at ecery one (including your own type).

There is difference btwn jokes, and stuff that is blatantly offensive (designed to really hurt ppl). I don't really hear alot of these types b/c most ppl around here are very respectful.

The only exception is making fun of handicap. I really hate those. I dont know anyone that is handicap, but it just doesn't feel right.

I really try to watch my mouth though. B/c although I never meen harm, I know things can be offensive. Last thing I want is to get my ass kicked by an angry dude. I once gave a 30-40 year old guy the middle finger (ass hole was honking @ me or something), he got out of his car, got in my face, and really scared the shit out of me (thought he was gunna sock me in face). After that, I learned flipping ppl off, can be offensive to some.

just recently ive discovered that americans get really offended by this word....i used it in front of an american cousin of my gf and he looked at me as tho i had 15 different coloured heads on me

as far as the "racist" jokes go, i had an argument with a long time friend in the last few days that im not a racist just cos i thought some of these jokes were funny.

his argument was that if i laughed at jokes about black, jews, english and arabs, i must be racist or else i wouldnt find them funny.......for some reason, his sense of humour seems to have disappeared over the last while.

im also in agreement with Gder in that i try not to laugh at handicapped kinda jokes, even tho some of them are damned funny
