when my BD says the "c word" to me, he certainly doesn't mean it to be funny, so it kinda makes me squirm when i hear ppl say it even though i know they're just jokin around.

what about the double standard issue? i'm jewish and i make fun of jews all day long, i secretly get a little upset when i hear gentiles make jokes about my peeps bc i think real honest-to-god antisemitism is still alive and kicking. and (hate to bring this up, but it's true) my girlfriends and i will call each other biotch/ho/slut (dare i say it! ) in public joking around, but dayum, it is NOT alright for a dude to say that to me! i know it's a double standard, i've always found it kinda interesting though. kinda like the eruption of the word "nukka" as being ok for white ppl to say bc we can't say the "n word", not that i say either!

also, you should all check out patrice o'neil's opinions on racism, especially towards blacks. funnnnny shit. i can't believe they let him on the fox news channel.

I generally follow the rule of; is the joke meant in jest or is it mean spirited. I don't think jokes are all that offensive whereas racial slurs generally are.

I mean, a guy in a klan hood telling black jokes isn't all that funny. The same joke told by a stand-up comedian is. It's all dependant on the spirit of the remark.

Most jokes and stereotypes for that matter have some undercurrents of truth in them which makes them funny; however you need to be able to laugh at yourself to not take offense to them.

as for telling jokes in the presence of people u know will find them funny....ages ago, a friend of mine told a joke sorta relating to car crashes in the pub as we were all out after work one evening.....turns out that one of the girls at work lost her mother in a car accident a few years back and didnt really find it too funny

i thought it was damn funny tho, in a morbid kinda way
