Generix.. I had no idea there were laws like that. Who patrols these laws? The FBI?

Normally I'd agree, but in such a case of a game where people are making fan sites, it is extremely rare for the company to go after them. They silently encourage it, especially Blizzard.

I mean, they allowed thosuands of sites for their original, such as Starcraft.org for example, and even linked to them on their own site!

It only benefits their company to have dedicated fan sites help promote their company.

Look at the whole market Korea opened up on the Starcraft brand; it only massively helped the SC image, not hinder it.

So, no, I'm not concerned at all.

Now, if I were to buy the domain "Google2.com" or "MSNSupport.com" for example, that's an entirely different story because you're COMPETING against a brand and losing them money.

I spent a good time of the day on the phone trying to buy out domains. Actually bought SC2.NET from the South African Honorary Consulate, heh, and am working on obtaining Starcraft2.net as we speak.

Also purchased:

StarcraftForums.info
StarcraftForums.net
StarcraftForum.net
StarcraftForum.org
StarcraftForum.info
StarcraftTips.com
StarcraftHelp.com
StarcraftCheats.net
Starcraft-Forums.com

extentions make these domains xx-high xx in value. the game wont be out for awhile and well... like i said, the extensions kill the value.

Also the names say starcraft, no reference to starcraft 2. there are already established star craft sites right now. the best one you have is only worth low xxx if your lucky and find the right buyer.

Thanks for the advice sir. I've bought and sold many domains in the past for $2,250, $10,000, $14,500, $200,000, but I'll take your word for it.

BTW, as of a few minutes ago I did end up getting Starcraft2.net, and SC2.net will be in my possession in a week

nice one, if you can get something going with those two domains you could easily sell them off right before the game launches and get a nice return. I was reading your blog and you said you were going to keep one to make your own site? have you decided which one yet?

I'm going to be developing SC2.net/Starcraft2.net (first one will probably be a 301 redirect to the latter). And I'll keep starcraftforums.net and later will sell off the rest probably.
