Default I am in the well through Sat.8/18/06 (everyone read)

From TA's great idea stolen from a 2p2'er

"A stranger is being shown around a village that he has just become part of. He is shown a well and his guide says "On any day except Monday(today is wednesday, w/e), you can shout any question down that well and you'll be told the answer" .

The man seems pretty impressed, and so he shouts down: Why not on Monday? and the voice from in the well shouts back: Because on Monday, it’s your day in the well ."

Today is my day in the well, Friday, I'll say 'til Saturday at midnight.

You may ask me any question about whatever you like. Life/poker/whatever related and I'll answer to the best of my abilities and at my own discretion. With this day and age of people compiling big brother type databases and google, I won't post detailed stats and charts of such. (Personally, I think those things are hurting the game. Having a personal database is one thing, but this is getting ridiculous as all of these databases for cash games are not accurate and I don't want to help them gain accuracy.)

It really depends on the game and my mood because my biggest general leak is my steam factor. I'm a naturally emotional person and my emotions aren't affected so much by whether I'm winning or losing, but more to how my day's been outside of poker. That's when winning or losing can affect my play. These emotions fluctate from a "self-pity-Why do I do this to myself" to a "Fuck You, I'm gonna suck you out this time!"

Generally for each game, though,

NLHE- There are times when I tend to be stubborn with my read on a table and not adapt as the atmosphere changes even though the players haven't and I end up winning small pots and losing big pots as a result.

NLHE Tournaments- Endurance. I get bored and blowup very easily. I can steamroll through 1200 people and struggle like mad with the last 20-40 people because I haven't made the right adjustments at some times, but mostly, I just get burnt out by that point.

SNG's- I'm working on this now, but I play too many hands.

Limit Hold 'em- Conversely, I think I make these adjustments superbly in 6max. limit, but in full ring I play too many hands.

PLO8- I overplay my large nut-lo draws with only small chances to scoop.

PLO- This is a game that I don't feel I'm perfect at, but it's definitely my strongest because in big-bet poker, pot control is my strong suit and that's why PLHE and PLO are my best big bet games. I do tend to pick on weak-tight players out of position too much at times and when they pop me on the turn, I've picked a draw worth calling them in situations that are +EV, but not enough to justify my full investment in the pot through the hand. Basically, there are a lot of times where I could've played a small pot and been paid off when I hit, but I make it big too early OOP against the wrong people.

This usually happens if I'm running well and my day in general has been a great one. So, to put it best, my ego gets in the way.

Stud8- Definitely my second best game and many have told me that it's my best and as I think about it now against my competition, I can't think of a leak, so i guess it is my best. So, my biggest leak in this game would be my confidence. If I could bring the PLO ego over to Stud8, I'd get 10X better.

Stud- I'm just bad at Stud Hi. This was once a strong game for me, but since getting into Hi/Lo, my game has absolutely sucked to the point where in mixed games, I almost never played a hand or would take my breaks during a lot of Stud rounds

Razz- I get bluffed off of strong draws way too often on 4th and 5th St. I need to commit myself more to logging hands to gain the experience to read people's boards better. Though, I've been familiar witht he game for a couple of years, I just recently seriously picked it up.

To go back to the general leak, I need to be re-taught Stud. My grandfather taught it to me and since retiring, he plays 20-25 hours a week, but he lives in Arizona. I need to commit some time to spend with a local and seek out a killer Razz player.

I hope to have graduated law school by then and have my business well-staffed enough to not be so hands-on. Then, I can focus on my Law career. I've been aggressive with my money now because I have no aspirations to becoming some half-million dollar a year lawyer. I want to be a prosecutor in the State's office or Federal office and there's not much money there.

I've invested in real estate as well. I have 4 buildings now and I'd like to have 8-10 in five years. I hope that by then, my business is at a point where I don't have to play too much poker because I won't be making much money from my job when you consider costs of living in Chicago and the loans that I'll probably have to take out in Law School because I don't want to ask my dad for tuition if I'm in a jam. He's paid for my undergrad even when he's known full well that I've been willing to grind it out on my own.

Five years at the largest Catholic school in the nation has costed him $75k out of his pocket after scholarships and the financial aid I never received. That's about $75k more than I'd be willing to ask for. I'll take out the loans if I have to and taking care of them in 5 years saying that I'd've been better off loanign from my dad and paying him back. But still, I'd rather do it on my own.

To go back to this and better answer the question in a general sense, my biggest leak is that I can articulate all of that I did above too much better when I'm not running well or playing break-even poker than when I'm on a heater.

I play more online because of its convenience, but I'm a much better live player. I distinguish people from each other a lot more because they're more human to me. Online poker plays like a video game to me at a lot of times because I'm easily distracted at home witht he television, the cats, people over at the apratment, doing work, and whatever.

Live, I'm playing poker and being social with my opponents in ways that give me information about their personalities that help me make some decisions and size my bets. People's personalites just form my plan of attack and online has little personality on the mid-stakes level and no personality on the lo-stakes level.

I hate the "quick bet" option of betting the pot that sites have now, too. People overplay top pair with that option and it fucks up my read. You'd think that's an advantage, but they go broke because of that quick bet option. Online poker doesn't have to be rigged to raise rake production. Just put a "bet pot" option. Every time a hand passes the flop, it's gonna be a ridiculous pot.

I make money from sports betting, but I only bet football and basketball consistently because the lines are easier to read. I lost money on the World Cup and I'll bet on the Over/Under for the lo in a lot of Golf Tournaments, but the NFL, NBA, and NCAA is where I really put the money down. I think I make money because I don't put down nore money on games depending on how big the games are (i.e. I'll put the same amount of money on a playoff game than a regular season game). I did try betting basball last summer and lost about all that I made from the basketball season.

Other than that, no. I don't know how much I've lost at blackjack, but I've lost a lot. I'd guess $15k. I had a bad habit of taking half to all of what I made on the poker tables and losing it at the blackjack tables for a while. That's the only game I've played a lot and lost because I've never played anything else. really. I quit blackjack a bit before the new year and haven't played since.

I've played craps once and lost around $500 in 10 minutes and I didn't even know how I lost it, so fuck that game. I like cheap Pai Gow, but that's about it and it's more recreational and social. As for roulette and others, I just don't play them. Never had an interest in them.

I'm constantly making proposition bets and I don't know if I'm "up" or not. Probably down. That's more for fun, like who can chug their beer faster, little things in a pool game, other people's pool games, over'under on how long someone will be at the poker table before going broke- there are a lot of things you can come up with in bars while people watching.
