a couple observations on bluffing
Can you bluff a loose player? No. Can you bluff a good player? Yes. This is why its important to know your players. You will have days where the cards are not coming. This is when it will be important to place a few well chosen bluffs. There are nights where one or two bluffs made me go home a winner. I always try to analize the players at the table, mainly because, trying to bluff a bad player is almost impossible. He or she has no sense or concept of poker. That’s why I don’t try to bluff these players. I would rather save my money. Its also important to know who will try to bluff you. A raise sometimes will win you the pot. I try to always sit down and learn first, try to figure everyone out. Know yourself and more importantly know who you’re playing with.

Heh.. I don't know what to say to this because the majority of what you said is.... obvious? The main thing I'll agree with you though is that you shouldn't bluff a bad player.
Personally, I rarely bluff. The rare times I do it's when I missed the flop or a draw and it's relatively cheap to bluff (compared to my stack), or if I have a VERY good read on a player, but I will still need to have a good stack size.
For ring, substitute stack size for money in the pot.

Making money through bluffing
Like Kid I rarely bluff on volume (size of bet) . The occasions that merit it are when the pot justifies it, you're up against a tight player who doesn't like volume and community cards are very threatening .. eg, JT889 with three cards forming a possible flush - if the guys got top pair he WILL put down
I make MOST money through ppl bluffing me: overbetting mid pair and obvious failed flushes when I hold top pair are prime examples. The times I've had JT, hit top pair when a volume bluffer 'semi-bluffs' on the flush possibility and then on the river confirms he's missed the flush with a 2x stack size bet .. There are 'tells' in poker and there is mass-media advertising with flashing lights. These of course are the some of the 'Grandmother bluffs' that "fish" use. Strategic overbetting should be built into your game and should never depend heavily on volume (but uses changes in volume instead) - for some reason no one tells you how to do this

Bluffing in limit is pretty hard, bluffing in low NL, is also difficult. I take a lot of stabs at pots I think are likely to miss people, they are usually the smaller ones.

You can bluff in limit, but you gotta be willing to bet it all the way through. I think doing this in limit is stupid though, your going to lose more money over the long run by someone making a callout rather then win more when they fold.

In NL:more on bluffing in ringgames
"Can you bluff a good player? Yes"
er..no. You might win the hand.. you may even scare the blinds off him.. but if a good player knows what he's doing... he'll let you win a little .. before he takes your stack. For every time you get a bluffing edge on a good player, he'll have one on you somewhere down the line. All you're doing is breaking even. If it turns into a war.. the house wins through rake..
Be nice to loose aggresives... let them think you are weak/tight..they pay very well..

bluffing in limit is very possible but it is set up on the turn.
for example if you have a flush draw but feel your opponent has middle pair or 2 overs when he bets the turn you either raise or check raise your flush so if you miss you can bluff the river. Just bluffing the river after checking and calling the whole way will get you called.

I'm playing mostly SNGs these days, so I bluff all the time, good players and bad. Try and stop me.

I don't think bluffing is all that important in low limits. It's probably a much bigger part of the game at the high limits, but I wouldn't know. I'll bluff at the same times everyone else said they would...big pots, times when the board becomes scary, etc. Other than that there just seems to be very little point to it. Fold and wait for a hand, the idiots will be there to pay you off.

I agree... especially low stakes limit games, they always pay it off, there is almost never a point in bluffing.
