I haven't clicked the link yet but I'm assuming its the same one. Anyways here is Raymer's respone on another forum.
The story is wrong in two particulars. I don't carry large sums of cash, unless you consider five hundred to a thousand a large sum, and I'm not portly. I'm muscular and fat

Actually, you need to read his account on 2+2. He figured if he went into the room they would rob him and shoot him. If he fought back, even if they shot him, they would not be able to aim as well, and he would be more likely to survive. He made an EV judgement.

He didn't make "an ev judgement" he made a split second decision that happend to work out.
