Default Question about pi

I always hear about some university calculating pi the the X th place. This made me wonder, how is pi calculated? I know it could be done by comparing the diameter to circumfrence. But if this was actualy how it is was done wouldnt the amount it could accurately be calculated to be constrained by the precicion of the measurement? Im sure this is an easy answer for someone here but i really dont understand/had never thought about it.

Its a entry level calculus problem. I had to do it for calc I. But I forgot how to do it...... It's basically about finding the length of the base of a ifinite amount of triangles aranged in a circle.

It actually was very simple... but you are limited by the amount of computing power you have to find the accuracy of pi.

pi/2 = 2/1 x 2/3 x 4/3 x 4/5 x 6/5 x 6/7 x 8/7 x 8/9 ...
or
pi /4 = 1 - 1/3 + 1/5 - 1/7 + ...

Or is this not what you want?
