I think i might have to agree with both sides of this argument..if you can even call it an argument. I don't consider myself a paranoid player and I have definitely seen my share of bad beats that have to happened to me and others both live and online. More hands are played online for sure. The point is this: Live i have heard more then I have heard online " If i would only have played that hand I would have...." The fact of the matter is that more people play more hands online in a given game because they have a harder time equating electronic money for real dollars and pushing a button is much easier then pushing real chips into the middle of the table when someone is staring you down reading into your SOUL. This is why most internet players hate live play.
They can sit back and bluff easier and it almost becomes robotic calling gut shot draws and floating with nothing is just as robotic. Most new people watch poker on TV and they see advanced moves and will use them in low limit games where they don't belong. This is why you see so many bad beats...floating and mistimes bluffs turn into gold more online then they ever will live. This may never change. The advent of robots also increase bad beats because they are programed to gamble in certain spots which will eventually bring the proverbial house of cards down when no more professionals want to bother with the online rigmarole.
It it is very natural to think it is all rigged.. is it.. I dont know. Computers are not truly random and may never be. The slip of a dealers fingers during shuffling or shufflers in the table will produce a different result every time. Computers shuffling make believe cards will never be able to do this... and besides online is poker kind of like robotic play....isn't it more fun when you can stare them in the eye??
But for all the faults online has many good things... always a game.... always an opponent....no tips....no waiting....lots of selection etc etc

On-Line Poker Play - Is it Rigged?
Let me preface what I'm going to say by stating some things: (1) I'm a live cash game player that has played $10/$20 no-limit almost every day for a year (I played with Huck Seed, Unabomber and others like them) and now plays anywhere from $1/$2 to $5/$10 no-limit that plays almost every day because they are softer games. I used to invest up to $10,000 every day and now from $600 to $3,000 per day based on the game and players. (2) I'm a modest winner. I have had losing streaks over 1, 2 and 3 month periods. However, over any 4 month period, I have won. (3) I do not consider myself a great player. Some folks tell me I'm very good and will leave the table when I show up. I think I'm a little above average and very disciplined with bankroll, maintaining playing strategy and not tilting too much. Furthermore, my reading skills are pretty good. (4) I retired young 5 years ago as a senior executive and I have the bankroll for any game I want to play up to $20/$40 no-limit. (5) I play to win and don't need the money to pay my bills or build bankroll. I play because I love it and I give my winnings away to those less fortunate than me. and (6) when I do lose, I never blame the dealer, other players or cheating.
I was stuck at home for awhile and decided to play on-line at Ultimate Bet and Poker Stars. I never played on-line before as everyone I have ever talked to has pulled me aside and told me they cheat. But, I was curious and decided to give it a try.
I'm not stating that the game is rigged. However, there was what I would call several abnormalities that lead me to the conclusion that there is something to what folks have told me over the last 5 years. I ended up not losing all that much. About $350. No big deal. Don't really care about the money. But, I do care about fairness and integrity in poker.
Without going through a long drawn out analysis I can state the following from my experience of playing about 3,000 hands in about a week or so:
(1) I have had the worst run of luck that I have ever experienced in my poker career. I was drawn out almost every time when I was 75/25 or better favorite.
(2) I noticed certain patterns in folk’s play that appeared to indicate that they knew what was coming to some degree that was counter to their normal style of play in winning situations for them. I'm talking about good players.
(3) Cheating is a part of live cash games and always will be as you move up in games. I'm talking about collusion and other methods. I have dedicated myself to detecting this and avoiding the tables where I know it exists. There are numerous players that know my proficiency in this area and change tables or desist for fear of me reporting them.
(4) Based on, admittedly, brief experience, I'm walking away with the strong impression that there could be some cheating going on in some way. I'm going off to Vegas tomorrow, now that I don't have to be home bound anymore, to take advantage of the 'Juicy Games" during the WSOP tour.
I'm not accusing anyone or any web site. It's just my impressions from playing on-line and someone who has logged a lot of hours playing some very good players over the years and has not lost money. By the way, my greatest skill in my business career was determining who had good and who had bad intentions in various business dealings and being able to figure out situations where the company I worked for may have some risk.
Finally, my purpose is twofold: (1) Save someone money and time by listening to my cautionary experience; and (2) To vent a little bit, even though my losses were immaterial to me. I hate to lose.
Good luck to all and I hope I'm wrong

i will add this: its tough not to think online poker is rigged when you aggressively bet and raise with a big pair all the way to the river and get called down by a 42o for 75% of his stack just to have him hit his 3 outer on the river.
now having said that, is it any easier to think that something that is on as large of a scale as pokerstars or fulltilt isnt regulated at least to the point that being cheated out of money wouldnt happen. at least not to the "everyman" that I'm sure we all see ourselves as??
We are who pays pokerstars their huge fat paychecks. if they were rigged, wouldnt people just stop playing? go to a different site. if ALL online poker is rigged, go to a b&m room. if one isnt close, set up a home game. if you STILL cant get away from online poker, play extremely low limits. that way those damned cheating rooms will get the minimum from YOU. the honest, hard working, poker playing everyman!!! this just makes sense to me as +Ev....
P.S. GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!

Listen All you Readers . I have taken it one step further. I have logged hours and hours of playing FreeRolls , because I refuse to spend a cent at any on-line poker site because they are all 100% Rigged . Anyhow, I have pages and pages of proof , all hands are rigged and there is No such thing as Bad Beats , Card Generator , or just simply " Bad Luck " . I have hand after hand copied showing the same exact result in every tournament , and I mean the Exact Same hands card after card . I mean the SAME EXACT 2 CRDS DEALT , THE SAME EXACT FLOP CARDS , suit and all , THE SAME EXACT TURN CARD , AND THE SAME EXACT RIVER CARD , AND I DO MEAN THE " SAME EXACT CARDS , SAME SUIT AND ALL . So , stop listening to all of these people out there trying to explain it all to a so-callled " BAD BEAT " , they just look like bad beats . Go to a Casino and play , you might have a chance there with " REAL BAD BEATS AND ALL " .

I'd like to know who "we" are and who sticked this (although I agree with keeping it all confined to the one section). Poker is rigged, relationships are rigged, the economy is rigged, politics are rigged. Get use to it... life is rigged; usually against you. Sooner you except that, the sooner you can get back to beating the rigged games.
"People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don't believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and if they can't find them, they make them." - George Bernard Shaw

I got all in with QQ vs JJ preflop and lost again as usual on PStars 1/4 million. This has happened over and over to me this week. I had him 2.5 to one chips and lost. Next hand pushed on tilt with KQ diamonds and lost to flopped KQ of spades when 3 spades hit board. Over and over, I believe one must multi table and play thousand of hand a day to avoid this type of variance.
