Alright I'm fairly new to the site I know and there's alot of "senior" forum members and some of you guys know each other etc and alot of people here have some great input. But why is it there's a bunch of threads about people getting into pissing matches or insulting other people about their spelling or grammar?
This isn't a school term paper or creative writing assignment.. it's a poker forum. It hijacks a thread and it's getting kind of old reading through posts about spelling and grammar.. we're not in school, we're not getting graded on our writing so who gives a shit if someone spells something wrong or uses a word in the wrong context. If you pretty much know what the person is trying to convey what's the point (besides ego) in harassing them? Maybe the mods and Kid can come up with some kind of forum rule about hijacking posts over grammar.
If anyone wants to flame over this feel free but this is just my opinion.......
Well that and you can kiss my ass if you have a problem with it![]()

Is there a way to prevent threads from becoming a graded paper?

Just tell them to fuck off.

It wouldn't be so bad if there were more content besides the spelling/grammar corrections.
For instance, say "It's withdraw, not withdrawal. As for your question, here's what I think..." and go on to say something relevant to the thread.
Corrections don't count as content. And we have enough contentless posts already.

But again is it necessary to say anything if you know what the person is talking about? I mean if you meet someone in person (I'm not singling you out Yvraine when I say "you" I mean in general) and they ask you a question and use a word in the wrong contex do you correct them before answering? Although your example would still be a better reply.

Yes, I would, and I explain to them why if they don't understand. You should have used one if you meant that, not you

I agree completely Pok. This isn't the place to be getting pedantic about spelling and grammar (I don't what place is, but I intend to avoid such places).
People who, unasked, correct others spelling, grammar, or pronunciation, rarely do so as a public service to improve levels of literacy, but do so to put down others in order feel/appear superior.I love him who is ashamed when the dice fall in his favour and who then asks: Am I then a cheat? for he wants to perish.

The funny thing is that I asked for this kind of nitpicking of my "Little Green Book" review, and no one pointed out any grammar errors.
