I really ahte the PFO search engine. We here use lots of acronyms in our threads to make reading easier, but the search seems to enjoy ignoring most words three letters or less. Can we please change that??

You mean the way it prohibits searching for 3-letter chars or less? The problem is it makes the index databases for searching so much larger.. it's already at nearly a gigabyte!!

I understand that, and for normal forums I would agree, but since most of our posts consist of three letter words (reflection on the average IQ perhaps? ), I think modifying the index to include the lists of words that are in the Acronym FAQ would be a good idea. I have actually had search that were 6 words long get totally ignored.

And anyways, is server space that big of a deal??

Server space, no, but mysql database space is... aside from processing times, just doing basic backups is ouchy... getting hard for me to backup.. I may actually have to 'gulp' prune the forum eventually

Seriously, this is getting stupid, Could we not dismiss words that are listed in the Acronym FAQ? That will barely affect server overhead, its only like 20 words, and searchs would be a helluva lot more accurate. because Searching for "PS 20 man SNG" gets completely ignored, and writing "PokerStars tweny man Sit-N-Go" is not usuable because nobody types like that..... and with your new hardware you jsut acquired, is any of that an issue?

Well, instead of rewriting the search engine, how about having a section for articles? Members that were tired of answering the same questions could write an article on the subject and get it set up so that article is readily available for anybody entering the site....The articles would have to be specifically labled instead of something like "newbie Faq" and it would have to be In Your Face so that it would be work to ignore them.

I think this would work better then an upgrade to the search engine...

I will admit that I've searched for threads that I knew I had read...I had a decent memory of words and phrases used and still couldn't find it because of the search engine...I don't like it, but I've come to accept the fact that it isn't Yahoo...

Again I am goign to verbalize my desire to have an uppgraded engine. At least don't exclude any of the terms that are in the acronym thread.

If not that, How about having the option to list the results by relevance. I mean if you search "play money" you get every post, in chronological order, that contains "play" and/or "money". Thats a lot of threads. I know thats a major upgrade... but I'm a whiner.
