Here Ye! Here Ye!
Okay, here we go:
All of this started in this
thread between Gryff and Steve-O. It was a minor conflict between the two which was really just a misunderstanding.
The thread went on, quickly getting off topic when Irexes said "Feel free to delete my post if it's not what you were looking for." to which Steve-O replied with "No need to be a dick mate."
This is when things started to snowball. Right here I'll say that both Irexes and Steve-O are at fault here; keep your negative remarks to yourself, or else PM the other person. Do not make it public, nobody cares or wants to read it. Very minor still, but should be noted that bickering like that is really uncalled for and immature... again, just PM if you have any conflicts and stay on topic in the thread.
Irexes then made a comment stating how he thought Steve-O was "a shit moderator" to which Steve-O responded with a 1 day ban. Now, many people are against this action, but I support it. Launching an attack on the staff and authority of the site is uncalled for and was really a direct challenge. Irexes wasn't banned for life. He wasn't banned for a year. He wasn't banned for a month, or even a week, but one day. One day as a little slap on the wrist to rethink what he did.
Marm and others talk about how it's unfair that he was banned because he is such a respected member of the forum and deserved leniency - well, he did receive leniency, if a new member had said that, he'd probably be banned for a week or perhaps even a month. 24 hours is just a little time-out.
Beavis then launched a "steve-o should not be a mod" thread and was consequently given a 7-day ban by Steve-O. I also support this. Again, this was as lenient punishment; I'm actually surprised he wasn't given a 1-month ban. The thread should have been deleted as well.
I forgot who said this but I believe it was Marm "Questioning, or disagreeing mods are not grounds for a banning". This is where things get tricky in resolving things here.
Is this a democracy? No. It's more like Polical Absolutism and a Democracy combined. Absolutism is a political theory which argues that one person, who is often generally a monarch, should hold all power.
I own this site and generally run it. I am the administrator. The members of the forum are kept in line by moderators, who are (somewhat) elected (sometimes appointed) by the people. Administrator -> Moderators -> People. Our "constitution" are our forum rules.
To get back to "Questioning, or disagreeing mods are not grounds for a banning", let me refer you to the
forum rules:
Insults and personal attacks

While we are more lenient towards vulgarities, friendly bickering, and so forth than most forums, we do not tolerate blatant insults or personal attacks against others. Naturally, there will be disputes and debates in regards to strategy and such, but these discussions can still be dealt in a respectable manner. Repeat offenders will be warned and possibly suspended from the site.

We do not have a specific rule there that states not to directly challenge, insult or question a moderator, but we will. I will be opening a bill (hehe) in the moderator area which will modify the forum rules for this. I understand that this may sound strange or unfair, but again, we are not a democracy. This is a website for crying out loud. Allowing somebody to directly challenge a person's authority here is undermining the integrity of the site.
Therefore,
if you have a problem with a moderator, PM me privately. I have the power to revoke their moderator status. Nobody else does, so why even bother making a mess about it? All it does is make the site dirty with unappealing threads and conflict.
I will be making a thread in the moderator forum to address other internal matters there.
I'll finish by saying: This is a forum guys! A poker forum! Talk about poker! Talk about hot chicks (like Annie Duke)! Try to relax a little and just have fun. I'm a very relaxed, laid back, easy-going, care-free, happy-go-lucky kind of person... leaves me with little stress, you guys should try it too :-)
Play nicely
