The question isn’t really whether or not to lay it down [although that is an important question in the narrow sense of the specific hand] … the real question that you’ll get a benefit from answering has more to do with your raise on the flop.

What were you trying to accomplish with the raise? To put it another way, think of the hand as a conversation where you speak in bets – what were you saying with the raise? What did the all in say in response?

I get the impression you were meaning to ask “Do you have JJ?” with your raise. Or maybe more accurately “Do you have AA beat?” Your opp. pretty clearly replied “Yes” with their all in.

The issue here for your game isn’t whether calling with AA at 3-1 is right or wrong – it’s the fact that you got what you were looking for from your $30 – a clear answer – but it turns out you didn’t “like” the answer, so you called anyway.

I guess what I’m saying is having a clear understanding of what information you’re trying to gain with a bet – and what actions you plan to take based on that info you get - before you make it will reduce ambiguity for all actions after the bet.
