You didnt raise enough after the flop...just making it 40 cents wont make people think twice... Had you done that (make it like $1 or $1.50 at that point), he might've reraised you a lot ealier, and you couldve saved yourself money by folding.
Either way, once you saw the river, all he needed was that one Ace of clubs, and you shouldve folded to that likelihood, based on the way he had played the entire hand beforehand.
