there's a saying from many well-known poker pros and authors: It's better to be the bettor... not only do you have the possibility to win the hand right there, but it also advertises for the future that you will not be pushed around... in limit tourneys i see myself very often check-raising people in the earlier rounds so they learn not to f**k with my blinds later in the tournament where they become more important... consequently i see more free cards and get more respect when i bet.... just my .02
