Default King Jack reraise

This happened in a tournament my dad played in recently...It was a big limit tourney... He was a midstack and in the BB with apparently, the woman a couple seats to his left had raised his blind the previous 5 rounds...with this in mind, and with a decent starting hand, he chose to reraise her...she called, flop came nothing, he bet, she called. turn came, still nothing for him, he checked, she bet, and he layed it down. She turned over ... I have expressed my opinion that I disagreed with his reraise on the flop, and if he thinks his hand is good, he should be just calling with it, especially out of position. He has maintained his view that he would make the same play every time in that situation, and that he needed to show her that he would "kick back at her" sometimes, so she wouldnt be so inclined to raise his blind every time...what do you guys think?
