very grey area.

on one hand he never mucked, on the other declarations are binding. I think the deciding factor is he never flipped his hand where he is the first to show, as long as he still has his hand he can turn it over and cards speak.

I would say if it happened in a cardroom he would get the pot though. you shouldn't have showed him your hand and this whole thing would be avoided. let him muck and then you muck as well.

In a home game he should have given you the pot, but if I was the floor manager in a cardroom I would award this pot to your opponent, and remind you to protect your hand, don't assume you have won the pot until all hands are folded and the hand is over.
