AF can be misleading and this is an example of why. If you place 4 bets and make 1 call over 10 hands you will have an AF of 4. If he places 10 bets and calls 10 bets he will have an AF of 1. He is still betting 2.5x more regularly than you and as such is going to have a much wider range for that bet.
