Checking is definitely the best play to start with, he is never folding better if you lead out and only rarely calling with a better hand. It gets tricky if/when he bets though. I'd make some sort of a soul read based on bet sizing, timing, and any specific reads on his postflop play from our 40 hands together. FWIW if you check and he shoves I think calling probably isn't bad.
