Technically the answer is no since we know results and you obviously didn't make any money.
I think you should almost always bet strong made hands when in position in a fairly small heads up pot, which is what this is. He is never folding an ace here and may even be planning a check-raise with a big ace which if we deny him that opportunity by checking behind.
There are benefits of checking behind if he folds a flush draw on a paired board but would pay off were he to hit it on river for free and/or bluff river if he missed.
However overall I like the bet.
