From my limited experience, NL2 ring game is a little more profitable than $1 SNGs.
In NL2, 30% of my total earnings are raked by online casino.
In SNGs, 40% of my total earnings are raked.

In tournaments, especially late stage where blind becomes so big that you have to push PF frequently, luck becomes really important and you have no control of it. One hand will make a difference of 20% of the total buy-ins.

So I think you can try micro-stake ring games for a few weeks and see if your profit increases.

However, I have to admit that ring game is really boring compared to tournament. That's why you can easily make money from impatient, tilted players, though.
