In essence you watch the total amount of money going in rebuys and assume everyone will addon.
You need to get fewer rebuys than the average player - if you do that then you get an "overlay". If you exceed the average number of rebuys - then you are subsidising the tournament.

I dont understand what you mean. If you dont get chips to the table by rebuying, there's no way you can quadruple up quickly unless you've got some enormous unusual amount of luck.
If you just double up and dont catch any cards after the break, you quickly find yourself in push/fold mode.
