The way Party does it, you have to be dealt cards in a hand that eventually gets rake taken from the pot. You yourself could fold preflop, never putting in a single chip, and it would still count for you if the pot reaches that threshold.

Other sites use contributed rake, where you have to put money in the pot for it to count, which obviously takes longer.

I usually go for the max bonus, which means I need 1000 hands. This usually takes me a two or three evenings four-tabling. I'm afraid I never really timed it.

Personally, I prefer to wait until the last couple of days of the bonus period before reloading. Most of the bonus whores will have finished and cleared out by then, so there's more of the regular fishy players at every table.
