Mathematically, tournaments are a "closed system".. the strategey is straightforward, the returns (which are carefully constructed by the sites) are low but allow a good player a reasonable return.. This is is what Skalansky hinted at in his book.
SnG's are good trade..
Mathematically, Ring is an open an ill-conditioned problem - it is far more interesting and difficult to beat .. the boundaries are set by the players , not the blinds and prize structure..
Any site will allow strong players to make money at Tournaments.. but a very strong player (who assesses opponents etc) will approximately treble his return at Ring.. That is judging from prize structures at PS, PP (and obviously Empire), Gaming room and Doyles(/VC)..
